The Denver Office of Economic Development Workforce Development (OED WD) offers FREE classes to improve your employment opportunities by getting your software skills up to date. Their career development skills classes also help wanna-be jobbers develop personal skills needed to land a job.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT SKILL CLASSES
Interviewing Skills: Designed to help customers improve interviewing techniques and market themselves effectively to employers. Customers will develop a customized 30-second commercial for job search interviews.
Cover Letters/Thanks You Letters/ References: Customers will learn how to design and create dynamic, “results-oriented” cover and thank you letters. (Prerequisite: Basic computer skills)
Facilitated Job Search: Provides job seekers with guided assistance in their job search efforts with online applications and a variety of employment resources and opportunities. (Prerequisites: Resume, Cover Letter, Job Search Plan, 30-second commercial, and WorkKeys assessment)
Job Search Plan: This class is designed to help job seekers build a strategic job search plan using Networking and other resources to tap into the hidden job market. Customers will develop a customized Job Search Plan.
Résumé and Cover Letter Review: Critique session for individuals who have a cover letter and a resume completed. Tips and suggestions will be offered to improve your résumé and cover letter and generate successful responses. (Prerequisites: Résumé and/or Cover Letter saved on a Flash Drive or Disk)
Résumé Strategies: This class teaches customers eight easy steps to building an effective résumé. Customers will learn how to create an objective statement, professional summary, and achievement statements. The class will provide examples and in-class exercises. Customers will select a résumé format and design based on work history, skills, education and experience. The electronic résumé, or e-résumé, will also be introduced. (Prerequisites for Résumé Strategies and Résumé Review: Typing Skills, Computer Basics & Microsoft Word).
COMPUTER SKILLS CLASSESComputer Basics: Gain an understanding of the functions of a computer and how to use them.
Word (Beginning): Create, edit, format, save and print a document; essential for résumé development.
Internet/Email/ Online Applications: Gain an understanding of the internet and how to find information. Using the Internet, create an email account and learn how to use it. Customers will receive instruction in the on-line job application processes and etiquette relating to completing an application. (Prerequisite: Résumé on disk and basic computer skills)
