Safeway Gas Station Hearing Postponed

Yet another postponement on Safeway's proposed zoning change so it can build a gas station on the corner of Evans and South Downing, behind Morgan's Liquors. The Denver Planning Board has cancelled the previously scheduled Nov. 7 hearing, and rescheduled it for Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 3PM. The meeting will be at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Building at 201 W. Colfax Avenue - 4th floor conference room #4.F.6. .

Also, Safeway will also hold an informational meeting on their plans on November 14 at the Harvard Gulch Recreation Center at 7:30PM. Neighbors are welcome.

Why do we believe this gas station is a bad idea? The traffic congestion in the Morgans/Safeway/1stBank parking lot is already over the top, as is traffic at the increasingly busy Downing and Evans intersection. A gas station will only bring in more traffic and more accidents at the already overtaxed and busy intersection.

On hand to represent local residents at the hearing will be local group University Neighbors. The group is opposing the plan and requesting that before the City takes any action, Safeway should provide traffic studies, parking studies and an environmental impact report. Everyone is welcome to attend and comment on the gas station plans.
