Denver Cops Say No Cycling and Drinking Allowed

Denver cyclists take note -- you will now be subject to a new Denver Police Department enforcement policy that says drunk bikers, like drunk drivers, can be charged with DUI. In theory, the new enforcement policy could lead to jail time or a substantial fine.

We love Denver Cruisers and other cycling groups that patronize the South Broadway restaurant and bar scene during summer months, and we hope that this doesn't put a damper on their activities. At the same time, we've seen some pretty wasted cyclists blast through neighborhood traffic signals on Franklin Street, nearly causing accidents. And we can't imagine that Denver police have nothing better to do with their time. We'll see how this plays out. For a thorough read on the enfo
rcement policy, check out Westword's story here.
