Five Fun Things to Do in Denver this Weekend, Sept. 21-23

Lots of fun autumn-y and affordable things to do around the Mile High City this weekend Sept. 21-Sept. 23 2012. Here's some of our top picks.

Tuba music, bratwurst and beer mark Denver's annual Oktoberfest,  Friday, Sept. 21 (5PM-2AM) - Saturday Sept. 22 (11AM-2AM) and Sunday, Sept. 23 (noon-6PM_ , 2012 and Friday, Sept. 28 - Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. FREE admission. The festival also runs next weekend, Sept. 28-30 (same hours as above). Between 20th and 22nd on Larimer St., Denver.


Bulb planting season is right around the corner, so you won't want to miss the Denver Botanic Gardens' annual Fall Plant and Bulb Sale, Friday Sept. 21 (9AM-8PM) and Saturday Sept. 22 (10AM-2PM). FREE admission. Here's a list of the bulbs for sale. Here's a list of perennials (plus a few autumn annuals) that will be sold. Garden members can get in an hour earlier --8AM  on Friday Sept. 21 and are entitled to a 10 percent discount. Road Closures! Please keep in mind that in addition to entrance through the Bonfils-Stanton Visitor Center, the Gardens will also be accessible via the Cheesman Park gate from 10AM – 2PM on Sat. Sept. 22. Due to the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon that day, some streets surrounding the Gardens will be closed due to race course road closures, including the roads in Cheesman Park. 1007 York St., Denver, 720-865-3500.


Head up to Lookout Mountain for Buffalo Bill's Western Roundup. Noon-4PM on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Buffalo Bill Museum. FREE admission. Meet Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley.  Learn how a civil war cannon works.  Shake hands with Native Americans and learn about their culture. These are just a few of the FREE activities you will be able to enjoy as we celebrate the end of another wonderful summer with Buffalo Bill's Fall Roundup!  Throughout the afternoon the Museum will highlight the skills and knowledge of our volunteers, provide craft and hands-on activities for kids, and offer an abundance of photo opportunities.  987 1/2 Lookout Mountain Road, Golden.


Avoid the crowds aof First Friday Art Walks and experience the Santa Fe Art District on Friday, Sept. 21. Known as Preview Night, the arts district opens up to the public every third Friday of the month at more than 20 of the galleries in Denver's Art District on Santa Fe, a unique, nationally known art and cultural district with over 60 galleries, restaurants and shops. 5-8:PM. Alameda Ave. to 12th Ave.; on both Santa Fe. Dr. and Kalamath Street, Denver. 

Denver's Nourished Health Center is celebrating its two year anniversary on Saturday. Sept. 22, from 2-5PM. Everyone is invited to the festivities - FREE admission.
