Denver Dumb Friends Launching Horse Rescue

Cable TV kingpin John Malone, and his wife Leslie, have purchased a 168-acre ranch near Franktown so that Denver Dumb Friends can care for horses, donkeys and mules. Scheduled to open in June 2012, the Harmony Equine Center can house up to 100 horses at a time. The Malones own Harmony Sporthorses in Kiowa, a premiere breeding, jumping and dressage facility.

The Center is not open to the public. It is open only by appointment for individuals who are interested in adopting. The process starts with the completion of an adoption application. Potential adopters may call the Center for additional information. The number is (720) 626-2203.

The rescue will focus on horses that have been confiscated by law enforcement during abuse and neglect investigations. With the weak economy, equine abuse/neglect has been steadily rising in Colorado. Staff and volunteers will train and rehabilitate horses with the goal of finding them new, happy homes. Currently a dozen horses are ready for adoption. To see these adoptable equines and learn more about Harmony Equine Center,  click here.
