Green Chile Season is Here!

Fall is almost here and if you close your eyes, you can almost smell the heavenly odor of roasting chiles at Farmers Markets and at the family chile stands along Federal Boulevard. Yum! Load up on green chiles at the Pearl Street Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings, or drive along Federal or Santa Fe Boulevards until you find a stand you like. Remember that the best green chiles don't come from New Mexico, but from Pueblo Colorado, and maybe you want to take a road trip to Pueblo, where they will celebrate the harvest of the Mira Sol Chile at the 17th Annual Loaf ‘N Jug Chile & Frijoles Festival, September 23-25, 2011.More info here.

Check out the Denver Green Chile website for great recipes, a weekly draw to win a bushel of green chiles, and plenty of coupons. Got a great chile recipe? Enter it here by Sept. 22 and you could win $100! Yes it costs $15 to enter, but all contestants get $10 off a bushel of chiles, so really it is only $5. Our favorite local green chile spots? Santiagos at 541 Santa Fe Drive (or any of their locations), El Tejado at 2651 South Broadway, El Taco de Mexico at 714 Santa Fe Drive, La Fogata at 5670 E. Evans and Bonnie Brae Tavern, 740 S. University Blvd.
