Littleton's Western Welcome Days Aug. 10-21

Hurrah! Today marks the kickoff of Littleton's 11-day Western Welcome Week. Many events are FREE! While we wax nostalgic for the days (not all that long ago) when Western Welcome Week offered a carnival full of rickety rides and a real, honest-to-goodness Freak Show exhibit, we know that there is still plenty of fun to be had at this 83-year-old event. The best bet: take the train to Littleton and don't worry about driving. The event schedule is here (be patient, it is massive and takes a while to load). Don't miss the Friends Bag of Books Sale at the Bemis Public Library ($3 a bag!). Firework's withdrawal?  Friday, August 12 will feature a FREE 6PM concert by The Denver Municipal Band at Sterne Park, followed by awesome (usually) fireworks at 9PM. Sunday, August 14, check out the FREE Rod and Custom Car Show at the Littleton Elks Lodge (5749 S. Curtice). August 20 is the festival highlight with a Grand Parade, arts & crafts festival, music and dance performances, Fun For Kids Corner, the August 19 Big Papa’s BBQ Pig Roast Party (also at the Elks Lodge) and more.
