Joplin Mo. is a wonderful town -- been there several times -- and we're heartsick to hear about the devastation caused by yesterday's tornado. If you are seeking information about a loved one residing in the Joplin area, you can check the Red Cross's Safe and Well site to see if they have checked in as being safe and well. If you are in the affected area, or know of someone in the affected area who is okay, you can also check in on the site. A Facebook page has been established to help located people in the area. Licensed emergency and medical officials can volunteer their services by emailing volunteerservices@redcross-ozarks.org.
If you are not in the area and feel the need to help the pets affected by the Joplin, Missouri tornado, please donate money to organizations that will get the money to those in need. One such organization is the Global Animal Foundation. It is much like a "Red Cross for animals." The GAF set up a fund for the animals affected by the tornadoes in Mississippi and Alabama in April of 2011. You can also contact local animal shelters/rescues like Denver Dumb Friends and hopefully they will have additional information about organizations that can help pets in Joplin, Missouri. And another Facebook page has been established to help link pets with their owners.
If you want to donate money to the victims of this tragedy, text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.
