FREE Denver Summer Music V.2011

Denver never disappoints when it comes to affordable and FREE summer music concerts and 2011 is no exception!

First off, get thee on a train or bus or bikepath and head downtown on May 28, when 20 bands take to four stages for the second annual Denver Day of Rock. FREE!  The Gin Blossoms headline. Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, John Common, The Heyday, Bop Skizzum and Alicia Witt are just a few of the other acts that have been announced, with plenty more to come. The performance areas will be along the 16th Street Mall, making it easy to roam from act to act. Food and beer booths will be set up throughout downtown for the event, with free music rocking the city from 2:30-9:30PM.For full concert information and updates, visit www.DenverDayofRock.com.

Don't forget that EVERY Sunday night, June 5 through August 7, starting at 6PM, the City Park Bandstand and Pavilion turns into a swinging, open-air jazz club as music lovers of all ages congregate for City Park Jazz. See Hazel Miller, Chris Daniels and the Kings, the Manuel Lewis Trio and more. FREE! Bring a blanket or folding chair -- but be prepared to spend plenty of time on your feet, too. City Park Jazz encourages dancing! More info here.

Work downtown? Perfect. Check out Audio Picnic, a free lunch-hour concert series held every Friday June through August around noon at Skyline Park, right off the 16th St. Mall. It's a perfect way to enjoy a sunny summer afternoon in Downtown Denver. Check their website for a list of performers. At this writing they didn't have the 2011 listings up yet.

Thursdays always feel like the start of the weekend to me. And nothing beats a cool summer evening kicking back in Confluence Park with some great FREE live music as the soundtrack. Every Thursday in July at 6:30PM some of the Mile High City's best musicians set up shop along the banks of the river and jam the night away. Info here.

On June 1 catch the Doobie Bros. tribute band Black Water at a FREE concert sponsored by South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The Ridgegate Walk Concert will be held at the Lone Tree Rec Center, 10249 RidgeGate Circle, Lone Tree. 11:30AM-1PM.

More to come!
