The historic Mayan Theatre on South Broadway will be hosting its 80th anniversary celebration on Tuesday night. The event will feature drink specials, a screening of The Wizard of Oz, a costume contest and live music by jazz/blues vocalist Jesse Garland. The Mayan was constructed in 1930, and operated as a movie theater for several decades before shutting its doors for years. In the 1980's, Landmark Theaters took control if the building and reopened it as an art-film venue. A limited number of tickets will be available for the event on Tuesday. Tickets will cost $.25, yes, 25 cents, and will be free for people in costume. Ticket holders will get discount deals at The Hornet, as well.
